On November 18, the 2020 "Paulson Sustainable Development Award" (Paulson Award) award ceremony, sponsored by the Paulson foundation and Tsinghua University, was held online. The "innovation mode of urban waste battery recycling" from Wuhan and the "Haikou wetland protection and restoration project" of Haikou City stand out among many application projects, and have won the annual awards of "green innovation" category and "nature conservation" category.
Henry Paulson, chairman of the Paulson foundation and former U.S. Treasury Secretary, said at the meeting: "we hope to explore solutions to ecological degradation and biodiversity loss through the addition of new conservation categories to meet the urgent challenges. We encourage the government, enterprises and citizens to be guardians of nature, attach importance to the protection and restoration of China's natural heritage and invest in it. We need innovative thinking, smarter investment and breakthrough technology to map out a better blueprint for the future of the planet. "
The "innovation mode of urban waste battery recycling" from Wuhan greenway Co., Ltd. won the annual award of "green innovation" category. Greenway applied innovative Internet technology, integrated the city and community's dry battery recycling network, and built the whole life cycle value chain system of "power battery recycling cascade utilization resource recycling material recycling power battery package recycling", which solved the global issues of dry battery recycling and waste power battery recycling under the development of new energy vehicles.
In addition, the Paulson prize added the category of "nature conservation" this year, calling on all sectors to adopt innovative ways and mechanisms to protect and restore natural ecosystems. This category is strongly supported by the old bull foundation.
"Haikou wetland protection and restoration project" of Haikou wetland protection and management center explored a "wetland +" restoration and management mode, which won the annual award of "nature conservation" category. Since the start of the project, Haikou has established two national wetland parks and five provincial wetland parks, and the wetland protection rate has increased from 16.01% to 55.53%, becoming one of the first international wetland cities in the world. Wetland resources have been effectively protected and wetland biodiversity and ecological environment have been significantly improved.
